About HeavenCent Hospitality House:

In November 2009, Southeast Seminole Heights resident Louie Olivarez became the area’s first triple organ transplant recipient. Louie, a severe diabetic received a pancreas, kidney and liver during a 23 hour operation. Since transplantation is regionalized, Louie and his partner of 21 years realized that for many patients, they do not have the luxury of having lodging close to the transplant facility. Most patients either commute hours back and forth, or find hotel accommodations. After meeting a patient who lived 6 hours from his transplant facility, it was soon realized that the financial stress of lodging could be avoided by offering such service. When Stan and Louie’s advertising agency purchased a commercial property in SE Seminole Heights, the building came with an accessory structure. The two soon realized that with minor tweaks and adjustments, it could be recycled into a comfortable guest house for transplant patients and their families.

The home will feature a theme of Reclaimed, Repurpose and Reuse, a message all too familiar to the transplant world. As the project progresses, HeavenCent will be seeking companies to offer in-kind services such as plumbing, construction, etc to help remodel the existing structure.

The home is intended to be a “pay what you can afford” option in which all proceeds will be donated to the Erik Vincent Nicoletti Film Production & Broadcast Studio Foundation (www.EVNfoundation.org) in honor of Louie’s donor, Erik Vincent Nicoletti. As a lover of film, and a screen writing major, Erik had a passion for the Film and Broadcast industry. The EVN Foundation was created to build a Film and Broadcast Studio at Erik’s High School in Somers New York. Once the foundation completes their task of building the studio,HeavenCent will then contribute all funding to the EVN Scholarship fund, as well as create a fund to assist transplant patient with their exorbitant cost associated with their critical anti-rejection, lifesaving medications.

Robin Milcowitz and her team of Gardeners have spent the past two years working the garden at 407 W. Violet Street in South Seminole Heights. Without the benefit of city water or a well, the plantings have ingeniously watered using a system of rain barrels. Due to all of their hard work, local charities that feed the less fortunate have benefited from the excess fresh produce delivered to them free of charge.

So, where do these contributions come from? Well, we’re glad you asked! The Foundation raises money from grants, fundraisers and direct money donations.
Since just after our inception, we have had the great fortune of having a Corporate Contributor that has gone above and beyond the rest. This company is VERIZON! Through the Verizon Foundation, Verizon and its employees are able to assist in projects which affect their communities through a multitude of volunteer, disaster relief, collection drives, and an amazing “Matching Gifts Program.” The matching gifts program has been extremely beneficial to our Foundation. This program allows for employees or retirees of Verizon to have their contributions to the Seminole Heights Foundation matched dollar-for-dollar by Verizon.
Our hats are off to Verizon for all their help with our endeavors. We look forward to their continued support in the future, and hope that they have challenged you and your company to do the same!

Wow, how time flies! By now, we would like to think you all know who we are, and what we are all about – But just in case – here is a little recap:

Since the effective date of our 501(c)(3) status, February 26, 2009, the Foundation has been involved in a multitude on Greater Seminole Heights fundraisers, events and just plain neighborhood goings-on. To name a few, we have:

-	Established the Jane Castor Fund for local schools;
-	Purchased new crime watch signs for Neighborhood watch mobile patrols;
-	Sponsored the Seminole Heights Community Gardens;
-	Sponsored the South East Seminole Heights Community Garden;
-	Had the First Annual SHF Scavenger Hunt in Seminole Heights;

-	Sponsored the Garden Center revitalization;
-	Provided Food & Water for TPD in the days following the tragedy of its fallen officer’s, along with support at the funeral services for Corporal Mike Roberts, Officer David Curtis and Officer Jeffrey Kocab;
-	Sponsored the wonderful Sunday Morning Market at Hillsborough High School;
-	Sponsored the Taste of the Heights event in South East Seminole Heights.

And there is more to come! Currently we are planning:

-	To sponsor a public service campaign via billboards throughout our neighborhood promoting safety;
-	To sponsor a more fitting Corporal Roberts memorial at the corner of Artic and Nebraska Avenues;
-	To continue our sponsorship of the sophomore season of the Sunday Morning Market!

As always, we are looking for, and open to ideas, suggestions and assistance in further improving our neighborhood and commercial corridors. So please contact us with any and all thoughts you may have that our Foundation can help you to better our community.

A new business is looking to move into Seminole Heights and needs support from the area residents and businesses to receive approval from the City for their development. Initially the CVS site plan looked very much like their standard urban stores. However, when approached by the various neighborhood activists, changes were made that resulted in a site plan closer resembling the proposed Seminole Heights Form-based Zoning. The changes also allowed for the preservation of several Grand Trees, making the new site plan even better. The plans can be viewed by clicking here for Landscape Exhibit and here for Elevations
